Japanese

Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)

Welcome to Week 4 Japanese.

Year 5/6

Students have learnt about one of the New Year's tradition, special wooden plaques called EMA, on which people write prayers or wishes for the year. In class, students made their own ema, with pictures of this year's zodiac (dragon). Students also practiced how to introduce themselves in Japanese. Our goal is to be able to say their name, age, grade and zodiac in Japanese.

Year 3/4

Students have learnt more about zodiacs. They practiced how to say their zodiac in a sentence, saying “My zodiac is ___.” Students also practiced number related songs to practice how to count people, solid items and small animals. Our conversation practice was to be able to say their age in Japanese. Everyone worked really well!

Year 1/2

Students sang some songs to practice saying different sizes, animals and body parts. They also practiced reading some Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) cards. After they focused on “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” in Japanese, they wrote some words and drew nice pictures of various animals. In Week 3, students practiced colours and how to introduce themselves using their name and age. They played online games on ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) program to reinforce the vocabulary and sentences.

Foundation

Students have had a good start to our Japanese program. They learnt how to say “Good morning” in Japanese, where Japan is, how to say 1-10 and some animal names in Japanese. They also learnt “thank you” in Japanese which they will use a lot in Japanese classes. Our Origami (paper folding) has been ouchi-house and neko-cat!
