RPS Garden Crew

Join us Fridays after school in the veggie patch (starting this Friday). We work together to grow the garden and our community!

We hope to do some of these fun activities in Term One:

  • Harvesting coriander seeds and making dukkah
  • Making seed packets and seed balls
  • Prepping garden beds for autumn planting
  • Composting!
  • Planting!

Please note: everyone is welcome but all kids must be accompanied by their grown up. We gather together after school most Fridays, but don't meet when the weather is too hot/windy or otherwise wild! Join our Whatsapp for the most up to date Garden Crew chat. [Please text Jackie on 0413 218 761]

We hope to see you there, from Kate, Maude, Jackie and the rest of the garden crew.

Chicken Update

Welcome back to 2024. I hope everyone had a refreshing break, ready to start the year.

As many of you know, RPS has 4 chickens which have brought such delight to our garden area.

The chickens can eat kitchen scraps. So if you have anything to bring up to feed them, they will LOVE it. They eat most things apart from onion, potato, and avocado. We also don’t give them meat so that we don’t attract rodents. A full list of foods can be found hanging on their coop. We prefer the food stays in the coop rather than thrown into their yard, or else the pigeons will get a free feed too.  Make sure the scraps are small enough to go through the little feeding windows on the coop wire. (See pic).

We currently have a dedicated group of about 15 families who help to look after them on the weekends and school holidays.

We are always looking for more families to join our flock. So if you are interested, this can be a great way to connect with the school community. It’s very easy to look after the chickens on the weekends. They get let out each morning and put away before sunset. And you would need to check their pellets/grain and their water, and perhaps scoop a bit of poop. For your efforts, you will get to keep any eggs that they lay.  If this is something you think you can help with, please text Jackie on 0413218761, and I’ll add you to the WhatsApp group.

I will be holding a chicken orientation session at the end of week 3. Friday 16th of Feb, 3:35, after school in the chicken coop for all families who would like to learn more about how to look after the chickens. Please come along if you can.

See you there ☺️
