Principal's Report

Welcome back to another fantastic year. I have been so pleased to see everyone back and happy after a well-earned break, ready for a year of learning.  I would like to thank everyone for such a smooth start to the school year.  I have been in all classrooms over the past week and really enjoy seeing everyone following their classroom procedures.

Teachers spend the first 2 weeks of our school year really focusing on routines within their classroom.  When routines are set early, it can alleviate anxiety and develops consistency and structure which is very important in any classroom.

School Council Nominations

It is that time again when we are calling for School Council members. There are 4 parent positions available. If I receive more than 4 nominations for parent members, then I need to call a ballot.  In that case I will communicate this with you all and how you can cast your vote.  In the meantime, if you would like to either nominate yourself or nominate someone else, please come into the office and collect a nomination form. Nominations close at 4pm 21st February 2024.

We have 2 School Council meetings per term on Wednesdays.

School councils have three main responsibilities:

  • Finance: overseeing the development of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept of the school’s financial operation
  • Strategic planning: participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan
  • Policy development and review: developing, reviewing and updating policies that reflect our school values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.

School Council members also sit on one sub-committee held on the same evening as School Council – from 5.30pm.

Breakfast Club

I have recently met with Mrs Hansted, Mrs Kregor and Mrs Williams who (along with our marvellous volunteers) oversee the running of our breakfast club.  We are looking to expand what we offer this year however cannot do this until we have reliable and regular volunteers, especially for the Tuesday morning session. It is a great program for our students and is well attended!  If you have a Tuesday morning free (for an hour or so) and don’t mind coming in to assist, could you please email jade.hansted@education.vic.gov.au

The End of the Day – Child Safe Standards

Please note that our gates open to parents (and EMC students) at 3.20pm.  If you need to enter the office please do so, closing the gate behind you.

Should you ever need to use a toilet whilst onsite we have one available at the office.  Under no circumstances are parents or secondary school students to use our children’s facilities.  This would be a breach of our child safe standards.

Annual privacy reminder for our school community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

New Technology

The school has purchased new 65-inch promethean boards for each classroom.  These will replace the old TV’s.  All portables have had theirs installed and we are awaiting installation in the main buildings.  These are a great tool to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.

Have a great fortnight.
