From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,

The school was back to its familiar buzz this week, as students and teachers settled into the year ahead. I am incredibly excited about the new learning and work we have ahead of us this year, consolidating on what we did in 2023. Each year schools develop an Annual Implementation Plan which outlines the key goals and actions for the school year. In 2023 we implemented several new programs linked to student wellbeing and also the teaching and learning of mathematics, this year we will look to consolidate on these, whilst challenging ourselves to keep improving.

The first 2 weeks of our year set the scene for the year ahead.   Our “Head Start” program has been designed to set our students up for success for the year by going over expectations, discussing what good learners do, and building a connection with the members of the class.  Next week our teachers will meet in their teaching teams to design the learning experiences for our students for the rest of term 1.

2024 promises to be an exciting year at Lysterfield Primary School and we can't wait to share it with you.

MORNING DROP OFF

Starting from Monday, we will return to our morning drop-off procedures. Students should be dropped at the school gates by parents, parents are not to enter the school grounds or buildings in the morning unless they are going to the office to speak with admin staff.

Before school is not a good time to chat with teachers, please forward a message to your child's teacher via Compass should you wish to discuss something with them.

Prep teachers will meet their grades at the front of the school.

Prep R- please meet near the STEM room

Prep B and Prep S- please meet on the ramps at the front office

MEET THE TEACHER

The staff of Lysterfield PS would like to invite all parents to the 2024 Meet the Teacher Sessions.  Meet the Teacher sessions will be conducted on Tuesday 28th February from 3.50pm – 6.30pm and Wednesday 29th February from 3.50pm – 6.30pm. Bookings for sessions with grade 5 teachers will be available until 7pm both nights. Bookings will open on Friday 9th February and close on Friday 23rd February.

The Meet the Teacher sessions will provide you with an opportunity to:

● Meet your child’s 2024 teacher/s.

● Pass on vital information to the classroom teacher pertaining to your child.

The meeting will provide the teacher with an opportunity to:

● Introduce themselves to you.

● Learn more about your child through discussion.

The 10 minute sessions, conducted in person, are considered to be a vital part of the home-school partnership and as such, we encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity.  Children are not required to attend these meetings.  Prep parents do not need to book these meetings as they Meet the Teacher on the day of their child’s English Online interview.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION (PFA)

The PFA (Parents and Friends Association) is an integral part of our school community. Many of the wonderful opportunities and resources within our school come from the hard work of this group.   Please see below for a message from our PFA president, Melissa Cavanagh.

Welcome to 2024!

The Parents & Friends' Association at Lysterfield Primary School is a welcoming and fun committee which allows parents and caregivers of students at the school to play an active role in organising and running events that benefit our school community.

We do this by working collaboratively with the staff and school council, to represent a culture of positive engagement and community involvement. Our goal is to raise funds for special projects across all departments,  all while getting the students involved and having lots of fun along the way!

Some examples of the events and activities organised by the PFA are the Easter Raffle, Mother and Fathers Day Stalls, 2nd Hand Uniform Sales, Trivia Night, Colour Run and more.

In 2023, we had our best year yet and raised over $35,000! The money went to a LPS Marquee for sporting events, speaker system for our Performing Arts and an allocation for STEM!

We would love to welcome new members this year!  We understand that everyone’s lives are busy, therefore we meet ‘officially’ twice a term and then at however many coffee dates and brunches we need to organise events! It is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends.

To be involved, you must hold a current Working with Childrens Check and complete an induction on site.

If you are interested, please come along to our first meeting or alternatively, please email lysterfieldpa@gmail.com to register your interest.

Our first meeting will be:

  • Friday 9th February 2024 @ 9am -  Staffroom - please sign in at the office.

We look forward to seeing you there,

Kind Regards,

Melissa Cavanagh

PFA President

ANNUAL PRIVACY REMINDER

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.

DROP AND GO PARKING

Every year at the start of the year we remind parents and carers about the parking arrangements around our school.  There are 2 “Drop and Go” parking zones for morning drop off. These are to be used for quick drops, with no standing for more than 2 minutes. Parents should note that all parking on Bellfield Drive is now a 2 minute parking in the morning.

Cars should pull into the furthest available space, allow your child/ren to alight from the curb side of the car and then continue driving out along the road in the same direction. This is designed to be quick and aid in a smooth and safe drop off zone for all children. By following the flow of the arrows, we can work together to ensure the safety of all children. The same flow should be followed for the Lakesfield Drive “Drop and Go” zone.

For afternoon pick up, although the parking is not 2 minutes, parents are asked to be mindful of safety and refrain from double parking and completing U-turns in these locations. Please be aware of the permit parking zone, at the western end of Bellfield Drive, during afternoon pick-ups.

Also, please encourage your children to use the school crossings where possible.

Have a great weekend!
