Principal's Message

Mr Paul Clohesy

Happy New Year to you all! The school holidays are fantastic, aren’t they? I spent a lot of time with my family, making memories and building on our relationships. As my children grow older, these moments are extra precious, and I am so grateful for that time spent with them. But, I also love being part of the Trinity community and I was really looking forward to returning to this place where my friends and colleagues are, where young people thrive, and where we all make a difference.

It has been a smooth start to the year and it is great to see all the students looking well-rested and ready for the busy year ahead. While I look around and see happy faces as I wander around the campus, I am very aware that sometimes students can struggle to get back into the swing of things. I urge you to contact us if your child is experiencing any issues – getting in touch with their Homeroom Mentor or Year Level Coordinator is usually the first approach and we can take it from there. We are all here to help and building positive relationships with our parents goes a long way towards working together to develop the best possible young person, which is our mutual goal.

Community is so important to any school but at Trinity we are privileged to have such a long history of genuinely strong connections with our local people. Our 2024 student leaders have adapted this to be the theme for the year – ‘Community strengthens – so be a part of it.’ This simple mantra captures what we are about as a Catholic school – looking out for others, showing kindness and respect to all and making the most of our opportunities. With the support of their community, there is more chance of our students stepping outside their comfort zone, taking risks in their learning and using their voice to be agents of change for a better world. An effective community generates a strong sense of belonging, and this is an important component to the development of children into happy and loving adults.

This week our Year 7 students have been finding out all about our Trinity community, spending three days at camp at Kangaroobie where they will make new friends and build strong relationships with teachers. Before they left, we held a College assembly with students, parents, alumni and special guests where we celebrated our 2023 high achievers, providing wonderful inspiration for all of the students. You can read more about this morning later in the newsletter.

We have some important parent evenings coming up in the next couple of weeks. All Year 10, 11 and 12 parents and carers are invited to attend the Senior Student Information evening on 14 February at 6pm. There is a lot of VCE information provided at this meeting so parents and carers of Year 10 students who are accelerating into VCE will find the night very useful.

Year 7 parents and carers are invited to attend the Year 7 information evening on Monday 19 February. This event is an important opportunity to meet the staff who will be working closely with your child this year and is also a great opportunity to discuss any transition issues that may have come up.

Our students have a lot to look forward to next week. We have our Commencement Mass, Ash Wednesday liturgy and House Swimming Carnival. And just a heads up that the week after, on Tuesday 20 February, is College Photo Day.

It’s all happening at Trinity! I look forward to catching up with you at our events and activities soon.
