PDHPE

As we start our PDHPE Lessons in Term 2 we would like to commend students for their engagement and participation in various practical and theory based activities throughout Term 1. Workbooks were delivered to each students this year and the progress of student learning has been excellent.
This Term in theory lessons, Year 7 explores the unit ‘Stronger Together' focusing on inclusion and empathy. Students will learn about strategies to effectively develop an understanding of others feelings whilst also learning the art of responding when they see others in need. In practical activities, students will be continuing on with skills and activities to showcase their ability to strike and field. Many games such as T-Ball, Kickball and Cricket will continue to be played over the course of the term.
Year 8 is focusing on the unit ‘Caring for myself and others’. Students' knowledge and understanding on the important topics of consent, healthy relationships and online safety are being further developed. In the practical component of the course Year 8 continues to focus on invasion games such as Soccer, Touch and Futsal. At the completion of this unit, students will be participating in some Indigenous and Inclusive games.
Year 9 students have started a new unit titled ‘Eat Well Live Well’. Within this unit students will be exploring the interrelationship between health and physical activity concepts. Students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to empower them to make healthy and safe choices and take action to promote the health and wellbeing of their communities. In practical lessons Year 9 are developing Badminton skills to play a tournament at the end of the unit.
Year 10 has begun the unit ‘Risky Business’ which develops skills of making informed decisions. Topics such as drugs and alcohol are a particular focus this term. Students will be given ongoing scenarios, groups sessions and discussion activities to effectively be able to make positive decisions that minimise risk and limit negative risk taking. In practical lessons, students will be enjoying participation in either Tennis or Gaelic Football.
Last term, our elective students traded the classroom for the water at the Oasis. Such classes included aqua aerobics and working towards receiving their Bronze Medallion. Many of the students got involved and learnt a thing or two about the importance of having lifelong physical activity well into your 70’s.
As we continue our ongoing learning through the term we remind all students to keep up to date with all lesson material which can be found on all lesson outlines and to continue learning through revision and homework which is completed in their workbooks.
