On 5 May each year we celebrate the legacy and the power of the story of Blessed Edmund Rice, the Founder of the Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers. The Feast Day has been celebrated on this date since his beatification by the then Pope John Paul II in 1996. The Pope spoke of Edmund Rice as "a shining example of the fruitfulness of the Christian Life.
In 1802, after a family tragedy, Edmund sold his successful business and began a night school for impoverished children. By 1825, Edmund Rice and his team of thirty Christian Brothers were educating, free of charge, 5,500 boys in 12 different towns and cities. Many were then clothed and fed.
On this celebratory day we are reminded of the zeal Edmund had for compassion and justice. We reflect on his foundational motto to "Live Jesus in Our Hearts - Forever". May his example inspire us to serve others with purpose and act with compassion in our daily lives.
Celebrating his feast day recognises his life of service and invites students and staff to reflect on how they can live out similar values in their own lives - compassion, courage, and commitment to justice. We will honour Edmund and Nano’s legacy at our upcoming Founder’s Day Mass on Friday 29 May.
“A man of indefatigable zeal and charity, endowed with great prudence,
energy and perseverance”.

Student Captains and the SRC are close to launching our College Winter Appeal theme and activities for this year. Stay tuned.
Nano Nagle Prize

This year the Nagle Prize focuses on the idea of: How can I be a light for others in my community? What does it mean to be a carrier of the lantern?
Students are asked to interpret the meaning of this question and create a video, artwork or creative writing piece that interprets the theme.
Please see attached for more information.
Please see Mrs Gill if you have any questions. Entries need to be submitted to Mrs Gill by Wednesday 10 June.

Honouring Mary in the Month of May
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and therefore the example, guide and inspiration, of everyone who seeks God through their lives, work and mission. During the month of May, we hold Mary as our focus of prayer and intention, allowing her grace and peace to fulfil and sustain us through challenging times.
As we look forward to celebrating our Mothers on Sunday, let us pray for all Mothers and Mother figures in our community…
God of infinite love,
We pray for your blessings on all women who have loved and nurtured us
throughout our lives.
We give thanks for all the mothers and mother figures who have
guided and protected us, who have taught and encouraged us.
We give thanks for mothers who have passed away, birth mothers,
adoptive mothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters,
and for all women who take on a motherly role.
We ask your blessing, dear Lord, upon mothers who have lost children,
that they may have your continuing strength and courage.
We ask your blessing too, upon those who would like to be mothers.
Pour your blessings upon all women who provide nurture, compassion and love.
Give them the strength to live the faithful and loving lives you call them to live.
Protect and guide them. Keep them safe in your care. Amen
