Monday 8th June - King's Birthday Public Holiday
Tuesday 9th June - STOMP Concert at 6pm in the MPR
We hope all our mums had a truly wonderful Mother’s Day a couple of weeks ago and were thoroughly spoilt by their children! Whether you are a biological mum, step-mum, adoptive mum, foster mum, or a maternal figure in any capacity, your love, care, and guidance are deeply valued and appreciated.
Â
It has been a busy and exciting few weeks at SJV, with many events and programs taking place, including the First Eucharist Family Workshops, Japanese Cultural Day, STOMP, and our special Mother’s Day Assembly on Friday 8th May. One of the highlights was the Mother’s Day Breakfast held last Friday morning. We were delighted to welcome more than 100 mums and 150 children to the event. The MPR was beautifully set up by dedicated members of the PFA dads, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. The breakfast was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to see so many families come together to celebrate.
Â
A very special thank you goes to Matt Spencer and all the PFA members who helped organise, set up, and pack down the space. Thank you also to the many dads who arrived early to assist with serving setting up and packing up; your support helped the morning run smoothly and successfully. It was truly a team effort!

Well done and congratulations to our Year 6 dream team of Valerie, Kaitlin, Harlow & Lucas who competed in the Kingston Junior Mayor competition last week at the Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin. Â Valerie was elected to be the junior counselor, representing all the schools from the Chicquita ward. The Chicquita Ward starts on Brisbane Terrace and goes all around Cheltenham, Heatherton, Moorabbin Airport and Mentone. Valerie along with her team represented our school brilliantly in a very professional presentation. Â A special thanks to Mrs Greco, Mr Lane and Ms Fisher for preparing the children for this education enhancement event.
Last Thursday, we celebrated our annual Japanese Cultural Day. The day was filled with fun and learning, and the students looked fantastic dressed in costumes representing Japanese culture.
Â
A special thank you to Mrs Koziol for her incredible energy and organisation of Japanese Cultural Day. It was a wonderful day filled with enthusiasm, engagement, and meaningful learning experiences for all students.

This week, we welcomed Ms Sarah O’Brien to the SJV staff. Sarah joins us as an experienced Learning Support Officer and will support student learning across a variety of classrooms. I’m sure you will all make her feel very welcome.
Â

All students are now required to be in their full school winter uniform.  It is an expectation that winter shirts are tucked in at all times and that the correct shoes are also worn.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our school’s high standard of presentation.
Construction on our new school building is progressing well, with many exciting milestones recently achieved. Window installation is now complete, bringing more natural light into the spaces and giving a clearer sense of how the finished building will look and feel.
Â
Inside, the internal walls have been plastered and ceiling installation has begun, helping to define offices and shared areas. Painting of these areas will commence in the coming days.
At the same time, roofing works are nearing completion, with solar panels installed and heating and cooling systems now in place, marking a significant step towards making the building weather-tight.
Â
We look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues to take shape.

As mentioned in our previous newsletters, each month we will be placing information in about the Victorian Child Safe Standards, which are a set of 11 minimum requirements that all organisations working with children must meet.
Â
For the month of April, our focus is Child Safe Standard 4: Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.Â

Our Easter fundraising activities late last term were a wonderful success, raising valuable funds for our school community. The Easter Raffle raised an impressive $1,174.00, while the Easter Bun sales raised a further $573.00. Thank you to everyone who supported these events through donations, purchases, and volunteering their time.
Â
Students also enjoyed taking part in a fun Easter Egg Hunt, which brought plenty of excitement and smiles across the school.
Â
A very special thank you goes to Dave and the team at Woolworths Thrift Park, Matt Spencer (Parent), who went above and beyond with their generous donation of Easter eggs last term. Their support and generosity were greatly appreciated and helped make these celebrations so special for our students.

Our Requests for School Tours continue. Enrolments for Prep 2027 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office. If you are not able to make these tours please note that you are also welcome to call to make a time that does work for you.Â
Our Uniform shop is open every Monday at 3.15pm for sales. If you cant make it at that time, pop into the office and fill in an order form.
Â
Second Hand Uniforms are coordinated by one of our parents, Sahara. Please log on to Brisbane Terrace SJV Secondhand Uniform on Facebook. Sahara will approve you joining the group and you can access second hand sales through this group.
The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 28th of May
The next school assembly will be on Friday 22nd of May @ 3pm in the MPRÂ
Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools. Â We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
