MHiPS

Hello from Mrs Loverso!

Welcome to Term 2. It’s great to see the students’ happy faces and everyone settling into the routines and rhythms of the classroom and the school yard.

At PPPS, we continue to nurture the wellbeing of our students through daily procedures and expectations, but also specific offerings for those students who require some extra support.

There are 3 wellbeing specific programs available at PPPS at this time, and they are for students with identified needs:

The Wellbeing Program: Students learn about building resilience and confidence, emotional literacy, problem solving and managing worries. Typically, this program is best for students in years 2 – 6.

Social Skills: Students build confidence in social groups and focus on communication, friendships and solving problems.

Lego Program: Practise communication, problem solving and emotional regulation.

Life Skills: Students participate in real life experiences like writing menus, budgeting, reading recipes and preparing and cooking food.

For all students at PPPS, we encourage positive wellbeing practice through processes and procedures. Strong consistent classroom processes ensure that the students know what the expectations are at all times. This makes children feel secure.

Wellbeing check ins in the morning help staff be aware of the emotional load that students may bring with them in the morning.

We support NDIS affiliated therapists to work with students in our school and we promote the use of calm corners and mindfulness practices in classrooms too.

As mental health and wellbeing is a growing area, we are continuing to develop our practices and meet the needs of our students and community.
