State Finals – School Championships

On Tuesday 29 August, our senior netball team went to the state finals of the School Championships, which they had qualified for in July.  The day was a huge one, with eight games being played with very short breaks between them.  The girls rotated positions to help keep the ‘fresh legs’ required for games played at a frenetic pace.

There were some fantastic plays made, great accuracy from all our goalers, and brilliant defensive intercepts and pressure. Our midcourt players pushed super hard in every game.

Whilst the competition was very strong, as we expected, we did manage a win and hold our own against many of the teams.  It was a great learning opportunity for all of the team, and we are very proud of their efforts.

Special thanks go to Nat O’Dea, who invested a great deal of time and effort into coaching the girls for both competitions as well as weekly training.  A big thank you also to Louise Williams for driving the team bus! It was also fabulous to have several parents make the long trek to Melbourne to offer their support; they also helped score, which was really appreciated.

Congratulations to Mia, Bella, Neve, Chloe, Bella, Elsie, Sarah, Maya and Laura on representing the school so well.

Term 4 Saturday morning Competition – Pedrina Park

Registrations for these teams closes this week.  I would love to hear from at least one or two more players from Years 9-11 to play in the senior teams.  Having already played this year in any competition would mean that the fees are lower, as VNA would already have been paid (and is only paid once in a calendar year).

Please let me know ASAP.  Currently it looks like we will have 2 Year 7/8 teams, and 2 Years 9-11 teams.  The season is for 7 weeks (the Melbourne Cup weekend is a ‘bye’), starting on the 7th October, and finishing at the end of November.

HOCKEY

The Open Men's team played some exciting, fast open hockey last Sunday to record a 4-1 victory in the semi-final.  Captain Will Merrin scored a hat-trick, and Jack Jarvis started the goal-scoring with a neat touch near the goal line.  This was a very fine team effort, and all contributed to the day’s success.

This week, the Division One men play the Bulls in the preliminary final.  Hit-off is at 2.00pm this Sunday, and lots of support would be welcomed.

If we can play with the same energy and teamwork we have shown in the past few weeks, we will give ourselves a chance to proceed to the Grand Final the following week.

RSVP for the Hockey Dinner closes tomorrow - Friday, 1 September
