Deputy Principal, Teaching and Learning

 - Mrs Susan Bradbeer

This week we held our Explore Curriculum Information Night for our Year 8 and 9 2024 students.

We want our students to be flexible, creative, and critical thinkers. At the College the architecture of our learning ecosystem – Engage, Explore and Emerge - is designed to prepare our students for this challenge. Building on a foundation of core curriculum, one of the attractions of the Explore program is the diverse range of subjects on offer to our young people.

Many of the elective subjects in the Explore program are pathways to future study at the VCE level or in a post-school environment. We have an extraordinary range of choices for our students. At the Explore Expo students spoke with teachers about Visual Arts like 2D, 3D or Fashion Design, Performing Arts like Music, Drama and Theatre Production, Literature, LOTE, Business Management, Agricultural Science, Outdoor Education Water or Land, Sports Coaching, Food Technology, Drones, Esports or Equine Studies.

For students looking for a challenge, we offer a research project that introduces some basic research methodology and supports an individual research project. New in 2024, is Ethics and Philosophy.

Our commitment is to help our young people experience breadth in their learning and choose subjects that will then help them make decisions about their future. To foster a love of learning, we believe that it is important to try new things and experiment with new ways of learning.

Events like the Explore Curriculum Information Night are a great opportunity for new and current College families to connect. We were excited to welcome students who had been on the boarding trial and acknowledge that some students and parents/guardians will take the opportunity to watch the recording of the event later, here.

Mr Tim Cameron has emailed all students a link to our online subject selection platform. In addition, he has created a simple instructional video to help you and your child work through each step. Please note that all preferences and reserves are due on Wednesday, 6 September 2023. Head of Middle Years Mr Ben Hawthorne, provided more information about the Year 8 camps program and Head of Year Nine Experience Mrs Emily Hausler and Mr Scott Pinnegar from World Expeditions announced our 2024 Year 9 international trip to Vietnam.

It is an exciting time to be learning and experiencing new people, languages, cultures, and places. We are glad that you are partnering with us, exploring, and learning together.

A final reminder that Student/Parent/Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Week 9 Wednesday 13 September 2023. Information has been emailed to families earlier this week.
