Book Week Dress Up & Activity Day

What an amazing day we had last Tuesday. So much effort was put into everyone’s costumes, and we enjoyed seeing what everyone had dressed up as during the parade.

The rotational activities provided us an opportunity to explore some of the CBCA nominated books for 2023 and complete activities based on the books.

Congratulations to our winners of the most creative costumes. It was definitely tough choosing these winners.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

We have now read over 800 books with 16 days left of the challenge. 150 of our students have completed the challenge which is an amazing achievement. Keep on reading and let's see if we can get even more students finishing this challenge!

Author Visit

This week, the Foundation, grade 1s and 2s had a special visit from an author named Frane Lessac. She has over 45 award-winning children’s books published around the world (15 she has written but all of them she has illustrated). Frane shared with us stories she has written as her time as an author. Some names included; A is for Australia, Our Country where history happened, Island counting 123, A is for Australian reefs, and so many more. You may also own some of these books at home.

Frane told us about the writing process which included drafting, research, writing, editing and painting which she also does herself. It was exciting for us to learn about the time and effort that goes into writing these special stories. She is so talented!

We then followed a range of steps to a directed drawing with Frane of a Kangaroo and Koala bear. This was so fun!

We finished by asking Frane some questions about her time as an author. She started to write books over 40 years ago, when her first book was published. Some other facts we learnt about Frane today included;

  • She writes books about real places because she loves to travel.
  • The most important job about being an author is that when you’re reading the words, your words & pictures go together
  • She doesn’t have a favourite book, she loves them all for very different reasons
