Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

Excitement fills the air at our school as we approach the highly anticipated whole school production, "Dream, Read, Repeat." Today, during the dress rehearsal, I was thrilled to see the students in their costumes and makeup. A big thank you to Craig Buzsko who took photos of the children throughout the morning. Most of the the high-quality photos you see on our website, Facebook and Snippets are the result of Craig's hard work and high-tech camera.

Over the past few weeks, I have caught a glimpse of some of the class items and observed the children rehearsing, which has prompted me to reflect on the educational advantages of theatre productions, that go beyond refining a student's performance abilities.

The performing arts can help develop a range of skills which will benefit multiple subject areas, including improved communication skills, giving and receiving feedback, working in a team and collaborating, and effective time management. The unpredictable nature of live performance helps students develop the ability to think quickly and improvise when things do not go to plan, and to stay calm in difficult situations.

Anticipation is building for what promises to be an outstanding show!

This week, Mrs. Rassias and I had the opportunity to attend the Monash Manningham Network Principal's conference. It was a privilege to listen to several speakers and gain insights into the Diverse Learners Hub, which is a part of the government's Inclusive Education initiative. We left the conference with a deeper understanding of the tools and resources that schools can utilize to support our diverse learners. At DPS, differentiated teaching is already a strength, but we are constantly seeking ways to enhance our practices and embrace new initiatives and evidence-based approaches to create an even better learning environment for our students.

Reminders:

We kindly request that you  record your child's absences on Compass. It is important to include a reason for the absence to maintain accurate records. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

If you are planning a family holiday that will affect your child's attendance at school, kindly remember to inform your child's teacher. In the case of an extended absence, we kindly request that you notify the office in writing. This will help us ensure proper communication and make necessary arrangements for your child's education during their time away.

And lastly, a very Happy Father's Day to all the incredible dads, grandfathers, and father figures in our Donvale community! The students enjoyed purchasing items at our Father’s Day Stall yesterday. We hope you have a wonderful weekend celebrating with your children.

Kind regards,

Larissa Vesdrevanis
