Celebration of Learning

In the final week of term, we have a very special evening coming up - the Celebration of Learning.  Please add this important date to your calendar and ensure that you come along to share in your child’s celebration of their learning so far this year.  All classroom spaces as well as specialist areas will be open for students to lead their families through to share their learning.

Book Week

As many of you will be aware, this week is the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week.  On Friday the winners in each category were announced , along with the ‘Honour Books’. See the graphic below for all the winners- most of these books are available to borrow from our school library. More information about the award winners can be found here https://cbca.org.au/winners-2023

The celebrations at school will take place in classrooms, as well as a variety of optional lunch time activities, which students can hear about each day in the morning announcements at both campuses.

The highlight of this year’s Book Week celebrations is the Buninyong Book Swap Bonanza. We are asking all students to donate a book (or more if they would like) from home that they have read, is in good condition, and they no longer want but know that someone else would enjoy that book. Teachers will set up a ‘stall’ within their learning spaces for students to come and choose a book that has been donated. Students will get the chance to browse and choose a book to take home and keep.  Everyone will go home with a book!

The Book Swap Bonanza has been earmarked for Friday, however, some year levels will need to run their swap on another day, so please check Compass for any messages, or check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure.  If students could have their donated books to school by tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd August, that would be fantastic.

Young Authors’ Program

Last Friday we had the second workshop for our students who are part of the Young Authors’ Program.  It was our turn to host this second workshop, which we ran at the Scotsburn Campus and it was a hugely successful day for all 77 students from the various schools involved.

Students participated in four sessions throughout the day; those being with authors, Glenice Wood (I have an idea!) and Kat Clarke (Storylines Journaling), a session  hosted by Dana St P.S teacher Jess Norris where students had an opportunity to use their senses as inspiration for writing . The fourth workshop was hosted by our 5/6 classroom teacher, Mark Muldoon who ran a session throughout the day where students participated in songwriting and explored how life experiences and simple, everyday things can be the inspiration for writing.

A huge thanks to the Scotsburn Campus staff and students for allowing us to use your learning spaces to make this a successful day; we appreciate your flexibility in relocating to the Buninyong Campus for the day.

Planning Week

In week 9, which is the second last week of term (Sept 4th-8th), teachers will be involved in their planning day for term 4.  On this day, students will have an entire day of specialist classes, meaning that there will be a different timetable for the week.  Please see the table below for information regarding which day each year level will have their specialist day.  Students will need to bring their P.E shoes on this day. Please speak with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.
