Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Pilgrim Families,

It was a great time on Campus last week for Book Week, culminating with costume parades in the gym on Friday. It was fantastic to see the students dressed up in a terrific range of costumes. Some people went to great lengths with some very impressive costumes!

Some of the students wore masks, and as I watched them parade around the gym, I wondered who was behind each mask.

In life, we can sometimes put on masks – fronts that make us appear something different to our true selves. Perhaps it’s simply false bravado in a social setting where we would actually rather just sit quietly in a corner. Or perhaps it’s when we are trying to impress a new crowd and we behave in a way that isn’t really who we are.

We are so blessed to be completely known and accepted by our Heavenly Father – we don’t need to pretend to be something we’re not. We may be able to fool others, but we can’t fool God! Thankfully, we don’t need to, as God formed us, knows us, and accepts us as we are.

One of our pillars at Pilgrim School is ‘Belong’, and the definition printed on the back of our ‘Belong’ staff shirts reads:

“To be in the right place;

to feel happy, safe and comfortable somewhere;

to have a home.”

That is our desire for each child and family who is part of our community – that each one feels a true sense of belonging and acceptance here for who they are without the need to put on a mask.

(But masks for Book Week are still terrific!)

May God bless you this week.
