Principal's News

WOW – What a wonderful week it has been for all the children. We started on Monday with Science Week and the children were exposed to a science museum, experimenting with different chemical reactions; playing with forces and levers, building Billy carts; constructing helicopters and spinners, using the kitchen to construct cooking experiments, investigating worms out of their natural habitat and so much more.
Thank you to Steph; Jenny K and Connie for organizing such an incredible day of rotating activities for all the children to explore the future science industries and innovations that our children will grow up with. Thank you also to the teachers for enabling these science activities to continue for the rest of this week.
Year 3/4 camp at The Ranch, Mornington Penninsula
I was fortunate to spend a whole day with the Year 3/4 children, Ruby, Richard and the 4 student teachers down at The Ranch campsite, located not too far from Cape Schanck. It was incredibly well set up, great facilities and equipment, an abundance of food and on the day I was there we had brownies and fruit for morning tea, baked potatoes with everything for lunch; scones; jam and cream for afternoon tea with fruit and as for dinner, I have never seen a full plate of chicken schnitzel, mashed potatoes and vegies demolished so quickly.
The children were incredibly supportive of each other, accepting all challenges, stepping outside their comfort zone, demonstrating resilience and I was particularly impressed with the way in which they all collaborated during team events. Ruby and Richard will be putting all of their photos together, to show yourselves and the children, capturing the highlights from the camp.
The management at the camp commented on how respectful our children are, how they unfailingly demonstrated very good manners, and always followed instructions. Whilst I was in the animal nursery with a group, the instructor commented that she had never had a group ask so many questions and be so curious and interested in the animals. That’s our legacy of Investigations and ERP’s.
The school is indebted to both Richard Cornell and Ruby Cohen for their leadership of, obvious commitment and dedication to, all of the students which was evident during the 3 day camp. It is quite unusual to see such strong leadership in relatively young teachers and they both thoroughly deserve their day in lieu today to catch up on sleep and rest. I am sure all of our parents will extend a heartfelt thank you to both Ruby and Richard and the 4 student teachers; Kelsie; Emma; Alicia and Sophie who were also equally amazing and caring to each of the children.
Wakakirri – Last night’s show stopper!
The Year 5/6’s performed like superstars and outshone all of the other schools in so many ways. All of the parents who attended commented on our students and their dancing, performing, the importance and relevance of their story; the journey they went on to get to last night’s show.
A huge thank you to Pippa; Jenny K; Jade; Steph and Connie for all of their extra time and involvement dedicated to the students and to all of the parents who helped with costumes, transporting children and volunteering their time.
Congratulations to all of the children, you were all stars last night and I know that your involvement in Wakakirri will be a memory that lasts with you for many years. I was absolutely bursting with pride!
Proper photos and a video of the performance will be available shortly.
What a great week this has been and now I can’t wait for next week, BOOK WEEK! Start getting the kid’s costumes ready for the parade and yours for next Friday night!
