PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS CATHERINE HOWISON - ACTING PRINCIPAL

Two weeks ago our school community presented our annual Production. I can say with absolute confidence that the St Mary MacKillop College presentation of the musical, "We Will Rock You" was a resounding success! Many, many months of hard work and dedication from our talented students and staff culminated in a show that had the audience rocking in their seats to the iconic tunes of Queen. Our students shone brightly on stage, delivering outstanding performances that left the audience in awe. The backstage crew, including people working with sets, costume coordinators and make-up artists and sound and lighting technicians, deserves immense recognition. Their creativity added depth and authenticity to the production, transporting the audience to the dystopian world of the future. Once again our band provided expert musical support for our on stage performers and we are grateful for their talent and skills. Beyond the entertainment value, which was significant, this production was once again an opportunity for our students to learn valuable skills in teamwork, time management, performance and artistic expression. As it does every year, the Production fostered a strong sense of community among the cast and crew and is a great example of the opportunities available to students at our wonderful school. We are grateful to all staff and students who were involved and congratulate them on such an amazing show.

The Production highlights the richness of our school community and the many opportunities our students have to shine outside the classroom. In August alone we have had students participating in School Athletics and District Athletics, undertaking Wheelchair Training and volunteering at Logan Lodge, competing in the Culinary Challenge, attending an Agriculture Expo, participating in a Reflection Day with Sam Clear who walked 15,600 kms around the world praying for Christian unity, students attending World Youth Day in Portugal, getting involved in Science Week, being creative in MADD Week and supporting a whole range of charities. We share the same Vision as the Diocese of Ballarat, that ‘as partners in Catholic education and open to God’s presence, we pursue fullness of life for all.’ St Mary MacKillop College strives to be a learning community that provides opportunities for each and every student and staff member to belong and to find a deep sense of connection and contribution.

With only two weeks to go until the end of term I encourage all our students to make the most of every opportunity presented to them, whether it be the learning in class or the activities outside classes. Our community is strengthened by participation.
