Level 5

We have had a brilliant fortnight of learning in Level 5! It was a joy to see the students really get into the spirit of Literacy Day, putting so much effort into their costumes and asking so many insightful questions of our visiting author, Kelly Wilson.

Reading

During Reader’s Workshop lessons, we have been analysing a variety of different biographies. As well as learning about the lives of some incredibly interesting people, we have been investigating why the author has chosen each particular subject, who we think the book has been aimed towards and what makes it an engaging read.

Writing

Over the last two weeks, we have been taking our information report writing to another level and designing our own magazine spreads! We started by looking at a variety of fascinating National Geographic magazines and taking some inspiration from those writers, before creating our own using the information from our homework earlier in the term – our dream occupation.

Maths

Our maths learning has centred around translations, looking at how we can move shapes around a quadrant without them changing size or rotating. We are learning about which axis is which, how we express co-ordinates and even describing the translations using positive and negative vectors.

Inquiry

What an exciting few weeks of Inquiry, with all of us either giving speeches about our space topic or preparing to give them over the coming weeks. Everyone has been working so hard at home to practise and prepare what they would like to say and how to make it interesting and engaging for their classmates. It has been wonderful to see the growth in public speaking skills from the start of the year – as teachers, we are so impressed!!!
