Teaching and Learning in 3E
Welcome everyone! It has been a fun filled start to the term in 3E.
The students were lucky enough to participate in the weeklong Littlescribe Writing Festival. This entailed logging into a Zoom meeting each day which was presented by a famous author. The authors included Jackie French, Lisa Nicol, Kristin Darell, Louise Park, Tim Harris and James Foley. Each day these authors gave us great tips they personally use when creating their own books. These tips included creating three similes (using different word choices) as an introduction to help create a mood, writing the conclusion first, researching facts about a famous person and including these (or similar facts) to add depth to a story, using descriptive language for a magical object and finally, using the words ‘habit’, ‘appearance’ and ‘want’ to help develop a character. The children were extremely engaged and loved continuing their own stories after the lessons had ended.
In Numeracy, we have been exploring real life maths in several ways. We have been estimating and measuring length, weight and capacity. We have been using connector blocks to create rectangular prisms and calculate the volume of these shapes. Further to this, we have been learning about features of three-dimensional shapes and even had an outdoor 3D shapes scavenger hunt.
