DJ/Electronic Music Program

Term 3 has seen several performance opportunities for students involved in the College’s DJ/Electronic Music Instrumental Music Program. All DJ students were invited to perform at the Year 7 and 8 Dance, providing music for the night with a great selection of dance hits, including some great retro throwbacks and remixes! Year 12 DJ/Electronic Music Student Zane Seeto has also recently competed in the Brisbane heat of the International DJ Competition "Your Shot," where he placed runner-up, with Wade Campbell (Old Boys, 2019) winning the contestant title. Zane has been a student of the College’s DJ/Electronic Music Instrumental program since Year 7 and is currently performing professionally while completing his senior studies. Secondary students can learn DJ/Electronic Music via the College’s Instrumental Music Program and should contact the Music Department for further information.

Year 7 Drama

The Year 7 after-school drama boys have worked in Term 2 and Term 3 to write, perform and produce a short film. Using 'scary stories' as the basis for their work, the boys have taken the numerous tropes and genres connected with telling a horror story and reworked them in an original take. They have honed their camera acting and worked with green screens, learning the different skills necessary for a film to be successful.

The boys will have their world premiere on Tuesday 12 September at 4:30pm in the Experimental Theatre. All are welcome to come and enjoy their loving homage to all things scary. With a soundtrack full of the best horror hits, there will be a competition to name which movie they were derived from. Runtime is 20 minutes, followed by a discussion with the actors after the film.

The Gap Instrumental Primary Performance Program (GRIPPS)

Congratulations to Ethan Wu (6 Gold), Isaac Walter (6 Gold), Jack Donohue (6 Red), Pedro Chadud (6 Red), Lleyton Viljoen (6 Blue) and Wyatt Castleman (6 Blue) who attended the Gap Region Instrumental Primary Performers School (GRIPPS) from Sunday 20 September to Thursday 24 September.

Approximately 200 children audition each year for a maximum of 120 positions. Students from 15 State and Private Primary Schools in the Northern Queensland area are invited to participate. The music camp was conducted at The Gap State High School over four and a half days. Students were selected to participate in two music ensembles as well as a combined choir culminating in a concert at The Gap State High School on Thursday 24 September.

GRIPPS is a joint Rotary Club/Gap Schools initiative, which provides an opportunity for many talented young musicians to further develop their musical skills and friendships, and is coordinated by Principals and Instrumental Teachers and Instructors of The Gap Cluster. Thank you to all of our Marist Instrumental Music Teachers for preparing the boys for auditions, including Janelle Lee Long for coordinating the auditions for our boys and assisting the GRIPPS committee in the preparation and running of the music camp and concert.
