Primary School News

Mr Michael Connolly, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Parents

Last week, we commenced our Student Leadership process with our Year 5 students. Student Leadership is an important aspect of our Primary School, and I am delighted that 70 boys nominated themselves to commence this process. Just as our five leaders in 2023 have done, our future leaders will serve as role models for their peers through their actions and behaviours which will reflect the Marist qualities of Simplicity, Modesty, and Humility. They will practise servant leadership by serving others in our Primary School and will need to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and care for the well-being of others.

I wish the 70 boys embarking on this journey all the best for the days ahead and hope that they enjoy this first experience of engaging with Marist leadership. Those boys who did not nominate still play an incredibly important role in our community next year as they will lead by their example whilst mentoring and supporting the younger students next year. I encourage all boys in Year 5 and Year 6 students to finish the term off strongly and raise their level of effort to reach our expectations of them over the coming two weeks.

Primary Mass

A reminder that we have asked all boys to arrive at school by 7:45am on Wednesday (tomorrow) so that we can celebrate Mass in the Chapel together at 8:00am. Whilst we do not use the term 'compulsory' due to family circumstances and travel arrangements, we strongly encourage all our Primary students to attend this once-a-term special occasion.

Wednesday 6 September - Exploring Leadership in Year 5

In the afternoon, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, we are gathering the Year 5 students who have expressed an interest in becoming Primary Leaders for 2024. This event provides students with a unique opportunity to experience what it means to be a leader within the Primary school. An email with a link has been sent to all eligible students, and it is mandatory for them to accept the link before attending the afternoon event.

College App

Please ensure that you download the College App. This app will be used weekly to inform you of sporting fixtures, cancellations and bus arrival information.

Pick-up Arrangements - "Plan B"

It is important that you are aware of your son's pick-up procedure, particularly if sports training is cancelled or you are running late. To keep you informed, a message will be placed on the College App as soon as a decision is made to cancel a sporting fixture or training.

If a cancellation occurs, boys have the option to remain in the Primary School or proceed to an arranged pick-up point. Normally, sports training sessions conclude by 4:45pm, and we ask that boys be picked up at that time or shortly after.

Any boy still at their training venue at 5:00pm will be directed to the Boarding Reception area for collection. Additionally, in the case of bus arrivals, boys will be sent to Boarding Reception 15 minutes after the bus has arrived.

Sports Photographs
