PRAYER

Next Sunday we celebrate Father's Day.  We can look to Saint Joseph for an example of Fatherhood.  Joseph was a father with great courage, standing by Mary and providing for the child Jesus. Saint Joseph’s whole life was one of challenge: first to accept Mary and then to protect her and the child Jesus, then to flee to Egypt and live in a foreign land. In this Sunday’s Mass readings the focus is on our natural longing for God. In the first reading Jeremiah realises he cannot escape his burning desire for God. The second reading tells us that we must allow ourselves to be transformed to be one with Christ. And in the gospel Jesus explains that following him means making sacrifices. Father’s Day is a tremendous opportunity to say thank you to our dads and granddads for the things they have done for us and the sacrifices they have made.  We ask God to bless them and them in his care.

COMMUNITY MASS

It was wonderful to see so many of our families join us on Saturday to celebrate our August Parish Community Mass.  The Prep teachers are to be congratulated on the sensational job they did teaching the Prep students our final Hymn.  Thank you also to the families who contributed to the Liturgy, either by being a reader or participating in the Offertory Procession.  Thank you to the staff, Mr Simon Dundon, Mrs Wendy Gonsalves, Ms Anne Cook and Ms Grace Gingco who attended the Mass to support our St John’s School Community, you time and dedication is greatly appreciated.

COMMUNITY MASS COMMITTEE

With the recommencement of Community Masses, the Parish is looking for parents who would like to join a Mass organising committee for St John the Apostle’s Community Masses.  This committee will work with Kemp Vinson the Parish’s new Pastoral Worker.  We will be holding the St John’s Community Masses on the fourth Saturday of every month, in the School Hall.  This is a great opportunity for families to be involved in the faith development of their children, while supporting the Parish in a meaningful way.  Please contact the school office if you would like to join this committee.
