Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

MARRUNG PARTNERSHIP FORUM

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming 15-20 dignitaries ranging from Departmental staff including the Regional Director, Directors from Division, Divisional leads, Area Directors from Western Melbourne, Brimbank, Melton, Central Highlands and Barwon, local KESO's, Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (LAECG) and members from the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI). They were met and welcomed by our JSC and Koorie leaders and toured our great school. They were very impressed by the pride our students took in accompanying them and speaking about what we do here at Warrnambool Primary.

KINDER VISIT- FLORENCE COLLINS

We were very fortunate to have a visit to our school from Florence Collins Kindergarten this week. The 40 children participated in Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), songs, story-time and a play on the Foundation playground. We hope they all had as much fun as we did. Our Kindergarten Visit Program will also be running in Term 4. Well done to Skye, Jacqui and Tonya for coordinating the visit and for the help of Cathy, Leona, Ebony, Louise and our wonderful Year 6 representatives.

FOOTY BREAKFAST- Friday 15th September

Next Friday we are very excited to have our famous footy breakfast back to complete the term. Don’t forget to put your orders in by tomorrow.

Students and parents feel free to come dressed in your favourite team colours - it doesn’t have to be AFL. It will be a great way to complete the term, meet some new families and enjoy a tasty breakfast!

BREAKFAST CLUB CANCELLED - Friday 15th September

Due to the Footy Breakfast on Friday 15th September, Breakfast Club will be cancelled

SWIMMING PROGRAM- TERM 4

Our swimming program commences on the first day back in Term 4. All consent forms need to be completed before any child is able to participate. It is a vital skill for our students to learn and we don’t want any student missing out.

If you are unsure about any aspects of the swimming program please contact the school. Staff are also looking for parent helpers to ensure that the program proceeds safely. This can be a parent/carer or even grandparents. Any help you can provide is very much appreciated.

HATS –TERM 4

As part of our Sunsmart policy hats are required at school in Terms 1 and 4. Students and staff will be required to wear hats in Term 4 when outside. The holidays are a great time to dust off your child's hat, give them a wash ready for day one Term 4. If your child requires a new hat they are available for purchase at the school office.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS

Each week we will reference the one of the 11 Child Safe Standards.

Child Safe Standard 1: Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued

At Warrnambool Primary School we ensure:

1.1    A child’s ability to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights is encouraged and actively supported.

1.2    Strategies are embedded within the organisation which equip all members to acknowledge and appreciate the strengths of Aboriginal culture and understand its importance to the wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal children and young people.

1.3    Measures are adopted by the organisation to ensure racism within the organisation is identified, confronted and not tolerated. Any instances of racism are addressed with appropriate consequences.

1.4    The organisation actively supports and facilitates participation and inclusion within it by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.

1.5    All of the organisation’s policies, procedures, systems and processes together create a culturally safe and inclusive environment and meet the needs of Aboriginal children, young people and their families.

Have a great weekend!
