Level Low Downs

Prep

This term the Preps have been exploring the big question 'How do living things grow and change?' They have worked extremely hard to create their very own non-fiction book, exploring different Australian animals. On Thursday, we celebrated our learning by hosting a 'Prep Book Show' presenting our books to our adults! The adults were blown away with our work and congratulated the Preps on becoming authors! We then shared our books with our year 6 buddies!

Year 1

The Year 1 science inquiry unit has come to an end after a jam-packed term of experiments. We have observed colour change using food dye and water, matter turning from a liquid to a solid in jelly as well as ice cream in a bag and what happens when you combine mentos with coca cola (just to name a few!). We were also lucky enough to hear from some of our parents who are REAL scientists in their field of work. No doubt we will be heading into the final term of Year 1 better problem solvers and more inquisitive than ever.

Year 2

We’ve made it! Thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported us this term. We appreciate you sourcing boxes and ping pong balls for Design Tech, volunteering for the excursion and listening to your young learner read daily. Wishing you all some wonderful family time and a break over the school holidays. Here is some feedback regarding Year2 highlights:

Zander: going to Legoland with my friends was awesome

Ari: in Design Tech I made a game called Bottle Tip. It was great fun.

Evie: I loved all the creating and cooperating in Design Tech

Reeve: it was such fun going to different classes. Their games were great fun.

Knox: I’ve enjoyed multiplication, especially the timetables.

Year 3

The Year 3s have been working very hard on their Inquiry projects this term. Our big question for Design and Technology has been, ‘How might we design a community park that is sustainable, inclusive and reflects Indigenous perspectives?’

The “Bayside Council” reached out to BPS for some help with designing a new park within Beaumaris to suit all members of the community. The students each chose a park element to research and design. We then created a persuasive piece to convince the Bayside Council to include our elements in their new community park.

The Year 3s showcased their hard work to the Year 2 students, sharing with them all their work from the term including research, drafting, published pieces and completed models. We also went to the Year 2 rooms to see their Inquiry projects, which were amazing games! The students enjoyed sharing their work with each other and playing the Year 2 games.

We hope everyone had a lovely Spring holiday and we look forward to a great last term with the students!

Year 4

What a busy term it has been! On Wednesday the Year 4 students celebrated their hard work and presented their inquiry projects to their classmates and parents. They loved investigating how natural events or human activity can influence and change the Earth’s surface. We wrapped up the term with a movie day and popcorn! We hope you all have a great holiday break and we look forward to seeing you next term.

Year 5

Last week students completed the Year 5 Bike Ed program. We spent the week practicing road rules, turning at intersections and round abouts. We finished the program on Thursday with a ride along the bike path to Mentone. Everyone is really looking forward to the Bike Hike at the end of Term 4.

Year 6

This week we had our Picture Story Book Expo, where our students took immense pride in showcasing the books they've drafted, edited, and published throughout the term. Each book was a unique masterpiece, packed with imaginative concepts and presented in diverse styles. Evidently, they invested considerable time thinking about their presentations and crafting their illustrations. On Tuesday, twelve Year 6 students proudly represented Beaumaris Primary School at the district athletics competition. Congratulations to all students for their sportsmanship, and we wish the best of luck to those who have advanced to the next round. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and rejuvenating holiday, preparing for the final term of primary school for our Year 6 students.
