Wellbeing

Term 4

The Foundation-1 students were very excited to see each other after the two-week holiday break. We begin each session in a community circle checking in on what each student is grateful for or how they are feeling and why. While students have the ‘right to pass’, it is encouraging to see every student eagerly participate in this activity every week!

This week the Foundation–1 students have been thinking about safe and unsafe choices. One of the Wellbeing puppets, Tango, made some very unsafe choices over the holidays. He used his Dad’s power tools without permission, a sharp knife in the kitchen and crossed a busy road without an adult. This set the scene for a great game using thumbs up or down to decide if a particular scenario was a safe or unsafe choice. Students then worked with a partner to come up with their own safe or unsafe scenario.

The Years 2-4 students have been exploring the 5 senses in several ways. This week, they enjoyed describing items to their classmates that were hidden in a mystery bag. There were lots of good descriptive words used and some very clever guesses.

The Years 5-6 students really enjoy the community circle check-in at the beginning of each Wellbeing session. We focus on things we are grateful for and use visual aids (Fuzzies) to explore our feelings.  All students enjoy participating in the community circle, expressing their ideas clearly and confidently.

The Year 2-6 students have been busily presenting their photos from the Sensory Scavenger Hunt on the iPads. The finished products look great and remind the students of how they practiced mindfulness using different senses. The Year 2-6 students understand the benefits of being mindful and can use several strategies to calm down and refocus.
