This week's notes

Dear families and friends,

Robotics Yr 4-6

Cavendish students are very lucky to have many opportunities and new experiences. This week the Year 4-6 students had the chance to learn about robotics with an interactive presentation by Museums Victoria. Held at Gray St PS in Hamilton, we even managed to catch up with past Cavendish teacher, Mrs Brabham. For more details and photos scroll to the Robotics page within this newsletter.

Jolly Socks Day

What a colourful collection of socks we had today. Socks of all colours and all different lengths, on feet of all sizes! The money raised from sock sales and donations will be going towards  'Standing Tall Hamilton,' a school based mentoring program. Scroll further to see some fun photos of our Jolly Socks Day.

Teacher Professional Development

Miss Gray has had a busy week completing a 2 day course for Dibels Literacy Skills. This is a whole school assessment program that can be used to track levels and progress of literacy skills. We hope to implement Dibels into our school assessment portfolio in 2024.

Blast Cricket Yr 4-6

The annualBlast Cricket Tournament is on again. To be held on Thursday 26 October at Pedrina Park from 9:30am.  Eight players are on the field at any given time with reserves on the sideline.  A permission note has been put on the school app.  Students will need to have transportation for this day.  If your child will need a lift, please let us know.  We have conducted a team selection this week and the following students have been chosen to join the team:

Junior Landcare Nesting Boxes Project

Next Tuesday, 17th October we will be starting our Nesting Boxes Project with an introductory tour of the Cavendish Men's Shed.

At 2pm the whole school will be heading to the Cavendish Men's Shed for a tour and talk about the project. Interested friends and family are welcome to join us.

Urban Upcycle Incursion

Next Wednesday, 18 October the school is hosting a team from 'Urban Upcycle.'  Children will be taught about what happens to our rubbish and landfill and how to responsibly recycle and reuse. Children will use recycled items to create a piece of art.

 Facts About Cavendish PS Rubbish

* Yesterday we counted 68 plastic wrappers and items thrown away at morning recess.

* If we multiply that over recess for 5 days that is 340 pieces of plastic each week;

      that equals 3400 pieces of plastic each term;

     that equals 13,600 pieces of plastic each school  year!

                     Scary numbers and it doesn't even include lunch or classroom rubbish!

Scholastic Bookclub

Issue 7 of Scholastic Bookclub is out now. Please place orders via the Scholastic online LOOP ordering system as indicated on the brochure.

Have a great weekend
