It was fantastic to see the large number of students participating in our track and field events, and traditional house chants.  Acacia were the overall winners of the day, to complete the trifecta for 2023 after previously winning the Swimming and Cross-Country events.

MONASH DIVISION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

On Friday, September 1st we took a team of 60 students to the Monash Division Athletics Carnival at Knox Athletics Track. It was an extremely successful day with 18 students qualifying in 33 different events for the Eastern Metropolitan Athletics Carnival on Monday, October 9th.

From these results, we also broke ten Division records - Will Amiatu (3), Lucia Shaw (2), Sophie Volpert (2), Oskar Dogrusever (2) and Deagan Backers (1). We also had four students awarded Age Group Champions; Lucia Shaw (12/13), Andrew Macrae (12/13), Sophie Volpert (12/13) and Will Amiatu (15).

VOLLEYBALL SCHOOLS CUP

From Monday, July 24th to Wednesday, July 26th, we entered our first team in the Volleyball Schools Cup at Dandenong Volleyball Stadium. The event featured a large number of private, independent and public schools throughout Melbourne, which created an exciting atmosphere throughout the stadium.

Our team included a mix of Year 9 & 11 students, who had been training hard in the weeks leading up to the event. At the conclusion of our preliminary matches, we had registered 4 wins and 1 loss, which qualified us for the 1st v 2nd playoff against Balwyn High School.

With the match being on Wednesday evening, it was fantastic to see the representation of parents, students and teachers supporting the team. The match was an entertaining and high-quality one, that was a tight contest throughout. After losing a tight first set, and being down 5-0 in the second set, we gained momentum and won the second set. The third set was very even, however, unfortunately, we had a narrow defeat 15-12.

Across the training sessions and matches, it was pleasing to see the camaraderie and enthusiasm shown among the boys. A special thank you also to Eli Franzke, who used his experience to provide invaluable coaching and guidance for the team. Eli was also awarded the MVP medal as the best player in the competition.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY

On Thursday, July 13th, we had two students represent the school at the State Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen - Kenji Calf in the 12/13 Boys event, and Evangelos Panagiotou in the 12 - 14 Boys Multi Class event.

Seeing schools from far and wide across Victoria highlighted that this was a state event with the very best performers. To have two students participating is a fantastic achievement for each of them. Kenji finished in 48th place out of 100 participants. Evangelos finished in 2nd place out of 15 competitors and has now qualified for the National event next month. We congratulate Kenji and Evangelos on their outstanding results across all cross-country events this year.

INTERMEDIATE INTERSCHOOL SPORT

On Thursday, August 17th we took five teams to the Intermediate Interschool sports competition in basketball, hockey and table tennis. Our hockey and girls' table tennis teams both finished a close second in their respective competitions. Fortunately for the hockey team, a spot has become available in the Regional competition, and they will be given the opportunity to continue playing in the next round.
