Wow! What a fortnight it has been with lots of exciting activities taking place.
The Referendum Day BBQ and Cake Stall was a huge success with $4,049.17 raised on the day. The fabulous response from parents supplying an extensive range of delicious goodies to be sold on the day was overwhelming but we also had the fabulous band of parents who came and wrapped and priced all the items on Friday to thank as well. The parents who came and worked on the stall cooking, preparing, and taking the money all did a fabulous job too.
Last Sunday I had the wonderful opportunity to watch students from Syndal South represent our school in the annual solar car and solar boat competition at the new venue Parkhill Primary School, quite convenient for our families. Students from Year 5 and 6 worked hard from Term 1 to design and make their solar vehicles under the guidance of Ian and Stephen (Box Hill Senior Secondary College) .
The competition attracts competitors from many schools across Melbourne, both government and independent. The smart green t-shirts our students wore this year looked fabulous and stood out amongst the crowd of other school students.
The actual solar car races and boat races were very exciting, and many cheers were heard as our teams won their heats. Unfortunately, the weather was not conducive for a solar event and the speeds of the cars were not as fast paced as some of our teams would have preferred.
Our students were wonderful ambassadors for Syndal South and should be proud of all the hard work and effort they put into the event. The competition promotes persistence, dedication, and a commitment to making a team project work. Our students have learnt a lot from the process, and I hope as our Year 6 students move into secondary school that they keep their passion for science alive. I also strongly encourage students in Years 5 and 6 in 2024 to consider joining the Solar Team. As our Science Captains say, “Go Science”.
Yesterday we welcomed back our 2024 Foundation students for their second transition session. The theme of the session was the ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The skills practiced throughout the session included listening to instructions, fine motor skills and the important ones becoming familiar with the Foundation classroom environment and having fun.
We have two curriculum days planned for this term. On Monday 6th November teachers will be collaborating analysing student achievement data and working on their student reports. On Monday 4th December staff will be planning for the start of the 2024 school year. TeamKids will be available on both these days.
Understanding that all our Year 6 students will be heading off to Secondary School in 2024, we need to know as soon as possible if any other students are leaving us. If you could let the Office know as soon as possible that would be greatly appreciated. Plus, if you know of anyone looking to enrol at Syndal South Primary can you please encourage them to do so as soon as possible.
Finally, our Move-a-Thon is tomorrow afternoon. The students, teachers and parents have been enjoying the daily Move-it experiences leading up to this special event. We are looking forward to seeing as many parents, grandparents as possible tomorrow at school from 2pm.
Have a great fortnight!
