Our students returned on Tuesday 3rd October and we were off to a great start and things were going well until the weather gods introduced fire and floods. All in one week. Despite bus cancellations and blocked roads, our students as always showed amazing resilience and got on with the job!
This week our students have been busy with performances at Maddox Gardens, School for Student Leadership students have started planning for their trip in Term 1 next year, students started the extended Oaks maths program and we have seen some very creative students in technology and art classes.
As always Term 4 is very busy. Students have 6 weeks left of their Semester 2 classes. Our Year 8 and 9 students will transition to their 2024 classes in Week 9, beginning 27th November. We will say goodbye to our year 9 students when they move to the senior hub. A day of mix emotions for everyone.
Please keep you eye on your Compass and the upcoming events section of the newsletter to ensure you are aware of everything happening!

The Accidental Insurance and Warranty on the School Netbooks, for Year 9 Students, is due to expire in the next few weeks. If your child is in year 9 and they have a BSC loan computer that is in need of repairs, could it please be taken to the Junior ICT office, located in the 8/9 building, before the end of October to ensure that it can be repaired. After this date, any repairs will no longer be done under Insurance or Warranty and may incur a charge.
It is our priority to ensure that all students have access to education through a working device. If a computer is not repairable, we will explore additional options to support your child’s digital learning.
With no textbook for years 7-9 at Bairnsdale Secondary College this year, our maths teachers have made the most of opportunities to collaborate and plan appropriate course material that suits the very diverse individual learning needs of our students. This has also meant being creative in formulating assessment tasks and then working together to ensure practices are consistent across each class.
Pictured are members of the year 9 Level Maths Team moderating the assessment of the project based work that year 9 students completed by designing their own amusement park. This extended task involved learning about finance, geometry and measurement, Pythagoras Theorem and Cartesian Coordinates.
Also pictured are some members of the Year 7 team ensuring that assessment tasks are ready to be published to reports later this term.
