Mentors needed

PAID: Callout for young illustrators!

Are you a young artist interested in a paid opportunity to create? 🎨 We're looking for young artists who can create illustrations for our upcoming updates to YERP – an online toolkit for young people, those who work with young people, and those looking to work with young people in the future.

How to apply: complete the application form and attach two examples of your work. You can also learn more about our YERP upgrade to help with your application. Applications close Sunday 22 October.

About YERP: Since 2014, the Youth Engagement Resource Platform (YERP) has provided resources to support young people’s participation in opportunities, organisations, communities and projects important to them. YERP offers tools to ensure participation is beneficial and meaningful for all involved.

Any questions? Contact the YERP & Code Projects Coordinator Mazz Sackson (she/her) at MSackson@YACVic.org.au.

Breathe Easy survey

Breathe Easy is here to create a healthier future for Gippsland and our first step is a community survey.

We'd love to hear what you have to say about smoking and vaping. The results will affect how we address smoking and vaping in Gippsland.

The survey will ask:

  • If you smoke or vape
  • How you would feel about smoke and vape free spaces being introduced
  • If you want more action to reduce smoking and vaping

The survey is anonymous and open to anyone living in Gippsland aged 12 and above. If you are 12-15 years, you will need parental consent to take part.

The Gippsland Engaged Mentoring (GEM) program, delivered by Workways Australia, currently partners with Bairnsdale Secondary College to provide mentors for young people. Youth who are “at risk” or disengaged or struggling at school, home or community are connected with volunteer adult mentors who provide friendship, advice, support and conversation.

According to GEM “The volunteer mentors who donate their time each week make a real difference in the lives of our participants, particularly so for those young people who may not have a stable adult presence in their lives at that time.” One hour a week is all that is required to make a difference.

Training is provided for all volunteers and mentors. Applicants must pass a Police Check and Working with Children Check. There are no other qualifications required for these volunteer roles, just good listening skills and a passion for supporting youth in East Gippsland.

The GEM Program conducts mentor training on a regular basis with the next training session to be help in November.

Community members who would like to volunteer to be a part of youth mentoring should contact Workways staff Jess on 0419 802 772 or Sue on 0436 480 357.
