Luna Community Report

Term 3, 2023

Welcome to Term 4

Dear Parents of Grade 1 and 2 students,

We hope you had a fantastic break, and welcome to Term 4! As we step into the last term of the year, we'd like to remind you of a few important things:

Sun Safety: Please remember that students require hats for outdoor play to stay safe in the sun.

Stay Hydrated: Ensure that your child brings their water bottle to school to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Reader Bag: Students must bring their reader bag to school every day to continue their reading journey.

Maths:

In our math lessons, we've been having lots of fun learning about money through play, using our class store to calculate how much things cost and what change we would receive. Our young mathematicians have been identifying different Australian coins and understanding their values. Currently, we're diving into fractions and exploring how to create halves and quarters of whole objects. It's amazing to see their mathematical minds in action!

Writing:

In the world of writing, we've been working on various exciting projects. First, we learned how to write letters and put this knowledge into practice by writing letters to our leadership team and our friends. Additionally, we've embarked on a journey to discover biographies. We started by brainstorming a list of people we can write about and what elements we can add to create fascinating biographies.

Reading:

Reading has been an adventure this term. We've delved into books composed of letters, uncovering that letters can be used to ask questions, persuade, inform, or thank others. In our most recent captivating reading, looking at biographies, we learned about the incredible Greta Thunberg and even explored the concept of a timeline. The young readers are making great strides!

Inquiry:

Our inquiry focus this term is all about culture – our own and those of others within our community. It all started with a heartwarming homework project where students interviewed a family member about their cultural heritage. It's a fantastic way for the children to connect with their roots and appreciate the rich tapestry of cultures in our community.

We're looking forward to a term filled with learning, growth, and exploration. Your children are doing an incredible job, and we're so proud of their progress.

Wishing you all a wonderful last term.
