Humanities

A crowd favourite, Term 3 focused on studying various historical periods. As the students progress through the year levels, they also progress through various chronological ages.

Year 7 students began by learning historical skills, then focused on the various civilisations in the ancient world. They started by investigating Australia, the oldest surviving culture, followed by Egypt, China, Japan, and Rome.

Year 8 students undertake two historical units. First they learn about life in the Middle Ages, beginning with the fall of the Roman Empire and ending with the Black Death that ravaged the continent. Following this they study the Renaissance period and learn about the transition from human reliance on religion to the evolution of science.

Year 9 students investigate the making of the modern world. They learn about the “greatest revolution” since the advent of agriculture, industrialisation. Then follow the British as they expand their colonial empire into Australia. Finally Year 9s learned about World War 1 and its impact on Australia and around the world.

9B was fortunate enough to have some lovely weather towards the end of term which allowed them to revisit some geographical skills as they made a mud map of the school then turned these into World War 1 battlefield simulations.
