Supporting our local Primary Schools
Recently, we have had a number of our lovely Year 9 and 10 students volunteer their time to support some of our local primary schools. These student have worked alongside primary school staff to run various activities and support these younger students to develop new skills, confidence and simply have fun.
On Tuesday the 5th of September, the volunteers spent the day at Maroondah Dam assisting with the Yarra Division Primary School Photo Trail Day. Our students worked in pairs to assist the Preps, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students from six different schools to participate in a series of tabloid sports. The teachers there had nothing but praise for our group and the way they ran their stations and interacted with the younger students.
Similarly, on Wednesday 13th of September a group of15 of our Year 9 and 10 students assisted in the running of the Badger Creek Primary School AFL Day. The Badger Creek PS students participated in 10 drills in groups of 10-12. Our Healesville High School students did an amazing job and the primary school students loved their footy experience.
The activities were:
- Goal kicking - Isabelle Watson
- Tackling with the tackle bag - Jadah Koh
- Handball target - Paisley Stock
- Longest kick - Sam Gommers
- Marking and bouncing - Kailee Short and Cooper Bell
- Modified game - Lyndsay Mackenzie and Emily Anderson-Hunter
- Lane work - Rosie Hodge and Charlotte Archibald
- Partner kicking - Hamish Prendergast
- Over and under relay - Bec Johanson and Blake Chipperfield
- Rob the nest - Hayden Kelly and Jack Collins
A big thanks to all of the staff and students that contributed their time to these great events.
