Year 8 News
Warm welcome.
Hi everyone,
We’ve had a busy term, so far. Our Year 8s attended a full day swimming program at the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre in Traralgon and a day at the tech school undertaking a program on sustainability. Students were able to investigate principles of sustainability and explore ways of designing an energy efficient house.
Students have had the opportunity to apply for a 2-month leadership program at Don Valley, near Healesville. Thank you to students and families who have applied for this. We’ll be in touch throughout the selection process. In classes, students are working well in preparation for the Learning Tasks that will be taking place over the next few weeks. The next Learning Behaviour Updates are a week or so away. Students are encouraged to discuss their progress with their teachers and ensure all required work has been completed/submitted.
With the warmer weather coming up, it’s a good time to check summer uniform items. All students should be in full school uniform. Please contact us if you are having issues accessing uniform items.
A reminder that students are expected to have a charged laptop and that students need to bring their laptop to all classes. Could parents and guardians please check that their child is taking their charged laptop to school with a charger? This would assist with trying to develop good organisational habits.
Finally, Ms Ramasamy will be on maternity leave, beginning next week. She has been a valued member of Kurnai especially our Year 8 and TR@K/English/Hums teams. We wish her all the best and will miss her at school.
It was a bright sunny day on the 10th of the 10th. The Year 8 students ventured to The GRAC in Traralgon to complete their swimming requirements for 2023. Students had demonstrated their ability on swimming laps using different styles, treading water, safe entries and a variety of rescue techniques. Students were also given free time to enjoy the facilities, such as the slides and water playground. We also had the opportunity to buy lunch at the canteen at the end of the day. Many students received a participation or excellence award at the end of the session. We were impressed with the way students engaged in the program throughout the day. At the end of the sessions, everyone went home ready for a goodnight’s sleep!
Skateboard Painting:
Students have begun working on their product range of a skateboard, hat, t-shirt and advertisement poster. Students have begun to paint their boards in a range of different themes based around nature.
