Woodlands News

Thank You

As Term 3 draws to a close I’d like to thank and congratulate all members of our school community on another successful term. Term 3 certainly presented some challenges for all of us but the way our community comes together and supports each other in difficult times is something I am very proud of. To our students, staff and families I wish you a safe and relaxing two week break and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 2nd October.

Administration Area Upgrade

A fair bit of progress has been made in the last few weeks with the new reception area framing just about complete. Inside the existing building,  everything has been prepped to start plastering.

In the next few weeks we should be at lock up in the new section with the roof being completed in the next couple of weeks, followed by windows and cladding. Plastering will also begin in the existing building. The builders tell us that we are still on track for an early December finish. Fingers crossed.

Jamisen N - Touch Rugby State Tournament

I attended the Touch Rugby Tournament held between the 13-18 August in Darwin and played in the Under 12 Boys Team. Trials were held in March, we had three training sessions where the coach chose who would make the team. I was told I made the Victorian State team in April. After that, every Sunday we had to train in the city. The position they put me in was mainly wing and sometimes link. There were 20 training sessions before we flew to Darwin for the State Tournament.

I flew with the Victorian team, our coach and my mum up to Darwin in the Northern Territory. When we got there, my mum’s cousin picked us up and Mum and I stayed with them for one night. The next day we went to the Quality Hotel where we stayed until the tournament was over.

We played against each state and seven games in total. We won four games. Every time we scored a try, we came off the field to use an ice pack to cool down because it was 30 degrees everyday. I played really well and passed an assist try. The coach told me I was really amazing. I learnt by watching the other teams play ‘’quickies’’. A quickie is where one man taps the ball on the ground and then runs up and touches the other mid-fielder. Then one man comes along and is  dummy-half and passes to the link. It’s a repetitive process to score a try.

I enjoyed the experience of travelling to a state I have never been to and playing different teams.

Chloe W - Interschool Equestrian Championships

Congratulations to Chloe W in 6BP, who competed at the 2023 PetStock Interschools Championships in Werribee earlier this term. Over 4 days on the weekend doing amazingly well, Chloe competed in the 80cm class, where she finished in 2nd place! She also finished in 6th place in her dressage event and 6th in sporting horse. This is a tremendous effort for what is a big competition in Victorian Equestrian.

Chloe also finished up last month in the Victoria Interschools Show jumping Championships, which involved high scores in over 4 different events during the year. After a lot of travelling and many hours spent training, Chloe did a superb job in finishing 4th in the state for Primary School riding in the 85cm group.

Well done Chloe!

Indi L - SSV Under 12 Girls Footy Team

Hi my name is Indi L, this year I made it into the SSV under 12 girls footy team. After 2 rounds of try-outs, I finally found out that I made it into the team. Around 300 hundred girls tried out but only 22 made the team, me and my family were so happy, this was an amazing opportunity I will never forget.

Every Sunday we would train hard, trying to prepare ourselves as much as we could. Making incredible friendships that I will cherish forever. Then on the 6th of August the footy carnival began.

Me and my mum drove up to NSW. Aubrey staying at a hotel nearby. Over the course of the week, we played all the other states winning 5 and losing one. We lost our first game and that was against WA. All us girls were so nervous for every game; the whole week was nothing like I had imagined. The environment, the players and the intensity was off the chart. Throughout the week I made incredible memories and lifelong friendships. And after a very hard and long week I am glad to see we won the Australian title.
