Another jammed pack term of sports for St. Johns students during the term. We started with a Badminton Rally Day coached by Ms Sonia McNally. Students from all year levels showed off their badminton skills against other schools and did a wonderful job representing the school.
Another carnival that was held in Term 3 was the SIS Division B Athletics carnival at Casey Fields held on August 21. It was a lovely day that saw many of our athletes walk around proudly with their first, second or third place ribbons. St. John's placed 5th overall in the carnival against other schools, however, it was great to see the passion from each student as they got involved in a track or field event. This day was well run by many staff at the College including Ms Fraraccio, Mr Halls-Ferguson, Mr Adkin, Mr O’Loughlin, Ms Liu, Ms Willder, Ms Yates, Mr Boswell and Mr Alexander.
Throughout the term was our regular SIS Weekly Sports. This involed teams in SIS Senior Girls Netball coached by Ms Yates, Intermediate Girls Soccer coached by Ms Kintzel, Intermediate Girls Netball coached by Ms Liu and Intermediate Mixed Touch Rugby coached by Mr O’Loughlin. All teams did very well. Special mention to two teams that won the pennant this term including Mr Swan's Intermediate Boys Soccer and the undefeated Senior Boys Basketball team coached by Tyler Halls Ferguson and managed by Mr Miles. A wonderful achievement.
Finally, the Inter Homeroom Volleyball competition will come to a conclusion next week with the Grand Final to be played between CO2 and PH4. This competition has been going since Term 2 and has been a knockout competition with each homeroom involved. Good Luck to both Homerooms and may the best homeroom win the inaugural Inter-Homeroom Volleyball competition.
As we look ahead to Term 4 there is plenty of opportunity for sport and I encourage all Junior and Intermediate level students to get involved in being a part of a team. The following sports are available:
Junior Girls Basketball (coached by Ms Taryn Willder), Junior Boys Indoor Cricket (coached by Mr Eamonn Farrelly), Junior Girls Volleyball (coached by Ms Anna Nguyen), Junior Boys Basketball (coached by Mr Paul Colvin), Inter Boys Basketball (coached by Tyler Halls Ferguson, Mr Tim Hogan) and Inter Girls Basketball (coached by Paul O’Loughlin).
