Matt Stanton visits Roselea

What a fantastic day we had last Monday, (Week 7) when we were treated to a visit from Matt Stanton, author of Funny Kids, The Odds and Books that Drive Us Crazy.

Matt spoke to all our students.  The lively and funny presentations encouraged children to explore their creative writing.  Matt believes interesting stories are hiding in all school subjects including, science, history, maths, art, etc.  and told some very funny stories to support this.  For a story to be interesting it requires readers to engage, so Matt inspires them to pursue reading with enthusiasm.

He also outlined questions students can ask to give them ideas for interesting stories.  These include asking ‘What makes a story interesting?’, ‘What if…,’ and ‘What would you do?’.  Using these questions as starters, students can expand on their ideas.  Matt also spoke about including surprises and ‘buts’ in stories.

If your child would like to purchase a signed copy of Matt’s book, a flyer can be collected from the library with details for ordering.  Signed books will be delivered back to school before the end of the term.
