Message from the Principal

Mrs Bronwyn Underwood

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has seen a noticeable change in the weather as we move to the commencement of Spring next week. As the weather warms, we will transition back into Summer Uniform, but until then please ensure that your child attends school each day in their full and correct Winter uniform. A notice will be sent on COMPASS when the change in uniform can commence and may well happen next week with the warmer weather forecast.

Next Friday, September 1 we will celebrate dads and other important males in the children's lives, with our annual Fathers' Day Breakfast commencing at 7.30 a.m. On that day we will also support Bear Cottage dressing up as our favourite Super Hero. The Bear Cottage Fundraiser is an annual event on our calendar and we look forward to a wonderful day to support this important community service.

This week, various staff members have attended professional development activities via ZOOM or in person. These activities included Retreats conducted by the Lasillians, focusing on the history of Catholic Education in Australia - particularly the role religious orders played in the education of children in early Australia. Other activities included Writing Instruction and Differentiation, Responsible Person Finance and the Science of Reading - Decodables. These activities contribute to the accreditation requirements of teaching staff and support our Annual Improvement Plan at St Michael's. The Writing and Reading activities also compliment the introduction of the K-2 English Syllabus, mandatory this year.

Kindergarten 2024 transition dates have been set. Transition will run from 9.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. on Friday October 27, Friday November 3 and Friday November 10. The Parent Information Evening will be held on Wednesday November 8 commencing in the Kindergarten Room at 5.30 p.m. A flyer will appear on COMPASS and Facebook in the coming week. For a child to attend transition, a completed enrolment form must be received by the school. Kindergarten 2024 Enrolment Forms must be lodged with the school by Friday September 8.

Survey My School surveys have been distributed to families. Please complete the survey at your earliest convenience. Children in Years 4-6 have completed the survey at school as part of the process. Information from the Survey will be used by staff to help determine future direction and planning. Your input is valued.

This morning, the school attended the Parish Mass celebrated by Fr McHugh in the absence of Fr Curran. Year 4 children and teachers prepared the beautiful Mass. It's always great to see Parishioners and family members join us when possible. Fr McHugh was very complimentary of the children and commented on their knowledge and reverence. We look forward to welcoming Fr McHugh into our school when he is able to visit.

Please be aware that the afternoon time restrictions in the Bus Zone out the front of St Michael's have been reinstated. The afternoon time restriction is 2.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. Please ensure you follow the directive and not park in the allocated zone, to save an unnecessary fine.

Enjoy a fabulous weekend,

Bronwyn
