Years F &1

hat a busy week it has been. We have spent time practicing for the upcoming Cavendish’s Got Talent, a trip to Hamilton for Taekwondo and the commencement of our projects. Since we have had a Mem Fox focus for the term we have decided to base our projects off the wonderful Australian animals we have. The students have picked an animal and have been working hard finding facts about their animal. We are all very excited to put it all together.

In maths we have been having some fun with mass this week. We have been talking and using the words ‘heavier and lighter’. We read the book ‘Who Sank the Boat’ and spoke about who sank the boat and why whether the boat was balanced at different times. We did a seesaw activity where students drew themselves on one side and identified something that was heavier and lighter. To finish, each of the students created their own boat and put a range a number of Lego bricks in it and they had to try and make it balance. We also experimented with how many Lego bricks until the boat sank. The students had a blast and thought it was an amazing activity.
