What’s Been Happening in Year 3?

It has been a jam-packed few weeks! We were lucky enough to go on a camp where we got to try out lots of exciting activities, like the flying fox, ropes course, mini golf, gold panning and the giant swing. It was so much fun, and we loved pushing ourselves to try new things!

In class, we've been working on our information text writing skills. We've learned how to organise our ideas and write clear, concise paragraphs. Here are some of the excellent writing the students have done.

IMars is a fascinating planet because it’s red but it’s actually cold. Mars was named after the ancient Roman God of War; some people also call it the red planet. It’s very important because someone might not know what you mean. If you don’t learn the official names of planets people will get confused sometimes. Mars is the second smallest planet before Mercury. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and is one of the coldest planets in the Solar System. Mars has the tallest mountain of the Solar System so far, which is almost as twice as tall as Mt Everest!

World War 2 went for 6 sad years, from 1939-1945. Germany invaded Poland in 1939 to raise the area of his land! Japan joined Germany in 1940, the war was now called the Cold War. Japan bombed Darwin Australia, in 1941, Although Japan did end up launching air raids on the following places: Broome, Derby, Exmouth and Wyndham!

Snakes are remarkable reptiles to learn about. They have fascinating features, marvellous movement, amazing anatomy, heart-warming habitats, remarkable reproduction and a deadly diet. Humans are killing snakes just for their skin. There for the skin is really expensive when sold in international markets. If we stop this we can prevent them from dying and think, will you like it if that was you?

In Inquiry, we've been exploring forces and friction. We have almost finished building our cars and are now getting them ready to compete in a 'how far can you go' challenge.

In Maths, we've been learning about chance and data. We played some games of chance and collected data to see how likely different events were to happen.

We've had a really busy but rewarding few weeks and we can't wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
