Dear Parents/Carers,
Father’s Day
I would like to wish all of our Dads a fantastic Father’s Day for Sunday. I hope that you are able to enjoy time together as a family and make the most out of being together on such a special day. Now, more than ever, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. A hand drawn card, scrambled eggs on toast or just a great big hug mean so much.
Parent Opinion Survey
Each year, the school conducts an opinion survey from a sample of our school community. The results are used to inform and direct our future school planning and improvement. Please be assured that your responses are completely confidential.
If you have received a Compass notification indicating that you are part of the sample, I ask you to please take the time to complete the survey as your opinions are important to us and will contribute to the future management and organisation of our school.
The survey is conducted online by ORIMA Research and should take around 15 minutes to complete and will be open between Friday 25 August until Friday 8 September 2023.
The survey can be completed using any device connected to the internet (even a mobile phone) and should you require access to a device to complete the survey, please let the office know.
Welcome Foundation 2024 Families
I would like to warmly welcome our new Foundation 2024 students and their families to our wonderful school community. It was fantastic to see everyone at the get-to-know-you sessions last week and we are eagerly awaiting the Prep Play sessions scheduled for Term 4. It is so exciting to watch the journey to school begin for our kinder kids. Beginning to build positive relationships with each other and the members of our team is one of the most important outcomes of our transition program for our new students. As their sense of identity and belonging grows, so too does their independence and confidence as they start primary school. We look forward to sharing the next seven years with our new students and their families and know that it will be an amazing partnership.
Buildings and Grounds Maintenance
There have been many projects taking shape at Belgrave South throughout the term as we begin to create and improve learning spaces and programs for our students. The next chapter in this journey involves the redevelopment of some landscaped areas around our school gym and clearing an area to make way for a new mud-rock circle under the shade sail beside the basketball courts.
Our beloved climbing dome will be retired in the next week or so. We have plans in place to replace this with a European handball pit that our students experienced at one of our school camps and thought was great fun. The climbing dome has supported many years of playground fun and must be a collectors item in its own right.
The library and further classrooms on the main corridor will have new carpet installed towards the end of the school holidays and the commencement of the new term.
As the Kitchen Garden precinct continues to grow (pardon the pun!), plans are in place for the construction of a stage in the amphitheatre area beside the Environmental Learning Centre. New drains have been installed under the grassed area and once the weather fines up a little more, construction can commence. The greenhouse is being fitted out with potting tables and propagation benches and we are seeking support from some nursery manufacturers for the supply of seedling trays and tubes to get our micro-nursery project off the ground.
School Production
The excitement among the Grade 6 students is mounting as they rehearse the 2023 school production of ‘The Twelfth Day’. I have been treated to some sneak peak performances when I have visited the students while they are rehearsing and it certainly looks like we are in for a treat again this year!
Costumes are being stitched, sets and props being painted and the orchestra rehearsing as opening night draws closer.
Tickets can be purchased through Burrinja Theatre, another link to ticket sales will be sent out via Compass. Get in fast as they will sell quickly.
