Trivia Night Success

Eurovision Trivia Night 2023

The scene was set on Saturday at Thornbury Theatre for Eurovision’s night of nights. The parents of Fairfield had scoured every Saver’s and Spotlight for miles around in preparation for their costumes. Good luck finding any sequined apparel in these stores any time soon!  Megan Fairbank had once again made a tremendous effort (and countless hours) to bring the night together. Even the Matilda’s going into extra time and the longest penalty shoot-out in FIFA history couldn’t derail the fantastic evening. Thankfully the Matilda’s did Fairfield proud and set the tone for an evening of celebrations.

Congratulations must go to Norway for winning the trivia night after a closely fought contest and subsequent tiebreaker. Well done also to Moldova with their capes of light for winning best dressed table and also to the gigantic winged Adonis from Iceland for best dressed individual. A huge thank you must also go to Warren Staples for his fantastic MC performance once again.

With the trivia out of the way it was time to clear the tables and fill the dance floor. The Baltic Beavers (aka the award winning Double Denim) once again proved their collective talent and rocked on until curfew. DJ Friyay expertly kept the dancefloor full until close. Michael Pascoe once again shone with his sound and lighting expertise. Indoor fireworks that would put Mötley Crüe to shame were a very welcome addition to the experience this year.

Once again a significant amount of money was raised for the school. Nights such as these don’t run themselves so there are many to thank beyond those listed above. First a big thank you to the generous community sponsors who provided goods for prizes, raffles and the silent auction. Please continue to support these local businesses that have generously donated. A huge thank you also to Tamlin Staples and the table of scorers including Corrinne, Tamara, Sarah, Gub and Bianca. Also thank you to the Nitschke’s and Mahony’s for selling raffle tickets and to Maree Porra for coordinating the silent auction with Tennille Villella helping source donations. Thank you also to Amy Stokes for writing questions and to Sarah Moody and Paul Wallace for their support.

The massive thank you must go to all the parents that attended for their dedication to the costume theme, generous purchasing of raffle tickets and silent auction goods, and for bringing a party spirit to the evening. Finally after three years Megan Fairbank will be passing on the trivia night baton. Having raised over $40,000 for the school during this time it is time to hang up the fishnets and the bunting. Thank you Megan for everything you have done to make the trivia night one of the highlights of the year.
