French Focus

Bonjour à tous!

It would be hard to start this newsletter item without acknowledging the incredible match between L’Australie and ‘Les Bleues’ on the weekend. Incroyable!

Pepito at Le Tour de France
Pepito at Le Tour de France

Sport has been a general theme in the French room over the last few weeks with ‘le football’ and ‘Le Tour de France’ both being explored across the year groups. In fact, it even seems our absconding teddy bear, Pepito, has joined in the fun. Our latest postcard arrived with ‘un maillot jaune’ – ‘yellow jersey’ and even a teddy-bear sized bike. The mystery as to his whereabouts continues…

Year 5 & 6 Students

Students have been working on posing and responding to questions in French. They played ‘Pêchez’ - ‘Go Fish’ and the French equivalent of ‘Guess Who’ using a range of vocabulary. Students are also now beginning to work on their own French raps. They will be assessed on their pronunciation, accuracy and creativity.

Year 3 & 4 Students

Students have begun learning about ‘les bandes dessinées’ – ‘comics’.  Les bandes dessinées are texts of a high level of cultural significance in France. Astérix et Obélix, Tintin and even The Smurfs were all originally written in French. Students have translated simple French comics from French to English and are now working to create their own French comics.

Year 1 & 2 Students

Students have focused on French conversation this term. They have played board games, Pictionary and participated in a range of language-based movement activities. This week, students will begin creating French conversations to act out with puppets. These conversations will then be recorded on iPads.

Foundation Students

Students in Foundation have been building on their knowledge of French greetings this term. They are developing their ability to ask someone how they are using the phrase ‘ça va’. Students are also creating designs on paper plates to match emotions such as ‘ça va bien’ – ‘I am well’.

They’ve also learned how to cheer on the Matildas in French – you might like to see Foundation D’s recorded version.

Hoping that everyone is staying toasty!

À bientôt! – See you soon!
