Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

Maramba Commitment to Child Safety

Maramba Primary School is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision-making. Maramba Primary School has zero tolerance for child abuse.

Maramba Primary School is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Every person involved at Maramba Primary School has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.

DEADLY SCIENCE WEEK

Last week, we finished celebrating Science Week at Maramba Primary School. As a part of this, we continued learning from some of the oldest scientists in the world – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These first scientists have passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky to future scientists of today through stories, song and dance. We have been exploring these lessons through Deadly (meaning awesome!) Science activities during lunch time.

The Year 1 students learned about and created Dilly Bags. These bags are mainly designed and used by women to gather food and are most commonly found in the northern parts of Australia. While these bags have a variety of names depending on their place of origin, Dilly is thought to have originated from the Turrubal word dili.

Year five and six students learned about how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples use the understanding of the refraction of light in the practice of spear fishing. Light coming from the fish refracts (changes direction) when it hits the surface. A person above the water sees the apparent position of the fish closer to the surface than the real position of the fish.

The students explored this concept through using wooden skewers as spears to try and catch foil fish in the bottom of containers filled with water.

FOM FATHER'S DAY GIFT SHOP SUCCESS!

Once again our amazing FOM volunteers have provided all of our students and families with the opportunity to get a little something for the their father or special male role model in their lives from our annual Father's Day Gift Shop.

A very big thank you to all of our families who were able to make a donation of arts and crafts towards this gift shop. The contributions are greatly appreciated and excitedly snapped up by our students. Your generosity is very much appreciated!

PARENT FEEDBACK SURVEY

Thank you to the 27% (22) of the 81 families who have completed the Parent Opinion Survey so far. With the closing date of 8th September, we would really appreciate it if our families could find 20 minutes to complete the confidential survey. Your time, thoughts and feedback are valuable about our school’s operations.

NOTE: Only one parent or carer per family can complete the survey.

For any of our families who require information in their home language, the survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Thank you for supporting our amazing school community!

Take care and stay safe!

Kind regards,

Darren Wallace
