BOOK WEEK REFLECTIONS

Mrs Kate Mowat

Thank you, thank you....THANK YOU!  This past week, you were part of making our week long celebration of books and reading the best to date!

Everyone that visited or helped this week commended our students on their manners, behaviour, participation and enthusiasm.  This makes us all at LPPS very proud.

PARADE

It began on Monday as students, staff and even some younger siblings transformed into a library of book characters, spilling through the gates with smiles and anticipation.  They were showcased in our whole school parade in front of many family members.   We danced and cheered them around the circuit to music.  As proud librarian of LPPS I can say that I burst with pride at the show of creativity and effort.  Follow our school Facebook page to view our Parade video featuring lots more photos from the morning.

CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION

We announced the winning entries from our LPPS Creative Writing Competition. These were handed in by students with such pride.  Every entrant received a special certificate. I can not stress enough how hard it was to judge the 100+ stories - they all had exceptional elements to them.  We had a panel of teachers read each entry and they had a really difficult task to select just 14 across all entrant year levels.  Congratulations to every single entrant, your writing standard was brilliant and this competition will become an annual event.  The top 14 are shown below and they received certificates and vouchers at the Parade on Monday.

BOOK FAIR

Big crowds, big smiles, big sales and big support from parents and staff both helping and purchasing items.   Held over 4 big days the Book Fair produced record sales which we are incredibly grateful for.  All sales earn our school invaluable resources which further encourage reading.  It was lovely to watch the older students assisting the younger ones with their wish lists.  They were very patient and kind with them before writing their own wish lists.  The best part was coming together at this happy event, having a chat and seeing the lovely books students were selecting to read for pleasure.

INCURSIONS

Our Year 5 & 6 students were inspired by author and past LPPS student Danielle Binks as reported in our last newsletter.  This was a wonderful lead into Book Week and resulted in some outstanding entries into our LPPS Creative Writing Competition.

During Book Week, Carp Productions performed two of their shows.  On Thursday our Year 3 & 4 students enjoyed a book themed show.  Today the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students were treated to a Fairytale Feast show.  Students were selected to participate in each show.  Belly laughs could be heard coming from the Gym as these talented actors changed into multiple outfits performing their book themed delights.  Bringing books to life is just another element of our celebration of literacy this week and we trust it was a memorable one for those children.

To finish the week, we had one of our parents come along to Foundation and read her self published, Dinosaur themed picture story books.  Shenelle Rose delighted the students with her characters Timmy, Travis and Pam.  This was a fabulous lead up to their inquiry on dinosaurs next term and a perfect end to a wonderful week.  If parents would like to order Shenelle's books, order forms are available at the Library or download as below.
