This course assumes you have completed Year 10 Humanities or Year 10 English.

What will I learn?

This course provides opportunities for learners to develop an awareness of the law as it relates to individuals in Australian society. 

 

This Level 2 course provides learners with knowledge and understanding of the Australian legal system and extends their skills of research, investigation, data use and analysis, critical thinking and applied learning. 

 

The course will support learners to apply knowledge and skills to real world issues and ideas. Learners also undertake an evaluation of one aspect of Australia’s legal and political systems in order to deepen their understanding of Australia’s systems of law.

 

Content

 

Legal Studies – Foundation Level 2 is divided into six (6) compulsory Units of study:

Unit 1 – Laws, legal and non-legal rules: why do we have them? (15 percent of course content)

Unit 2 – The three levels of government in Australia (15 percent of course content)

Unit 3 – Police powers and policing (15 percent of course content)

Unit 4 – Consumer Law (15 percent of course content)

Unit 5 – Family Law (15 percent of course content)

Unit 6 – Employment Law (15 percent of course content)

Summative Work Requirement: (10 percent of course content)
