Chess Club

This has been a busy Term 2 for our chess players. Sixteen of our players, 8 from the High School and 8 from the IEC, competed in the finals of the Australian Chess Challenge at Canley Vale. Several schools took part. It was a 7- round Swiss competition and our students played 112 chess games altogether. Their love and commitment to chess paid off. At the end of the day, we were judged as the winning team and were presented with a beautiful trophy. Our students gained a valuable experience through their participation and interaction with one another. Besides playing chess, it was a great social event for all chess players from different schools.

Our students are also involved in the inter-school chess competition sponsored by the NSW Junior Chess League. Here the games are played every Friday evening for 8 weeks. Our performance so far has been quite satisfactory. Only our B team players are participating in this competition because our senior players are unavailable due to their Year 12 study and work commitments.

In addition to the above competitions, another chess tournament for IEC students only, started in Term 2 and it was just completed. Our students improved their chess skills considerably by practising and competing consistently.
