Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week, we are learning to write an acrostic poem.

VOCABULARY

Poem: a poem in which certain letters of each line combine to spell out a word, name, or phrase when read vertically.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Have your child write the letters of their name going down the page. Your child can then go on a hunt for items that start with the same sound as that letter. For example: if they have a letter S in their name they might find a spoon. Your child can draw a picture of each item they find next to the letter in their name.

To extend your child's learning, you might like to challenge them to write the word of the item by listening to and recording the letters they hear in the word as they slide through each sound.
