Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Writing this week we will continue our focus on recording sounds we can hear in words.

VOCABULARY

Record: another word meaning 'to write'.

Sounds: the sound connected to each letter of the alphabet. We can hear these when we slowly sound out/stretch out a word.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your child find some objects around your house e.g. pen, hat, bowl etc.

With your child say the word, say it again, say it slowly. Have your child try to identify the beginning sound of the word e.g. ‘pen’ - ‘p’. Have your child write down the letter. If your child is able to identify the beginning (first) sound, encourage them to say the word again slowly and listen for any other sounds they can hear. Allow your child to record any other sounds they can hear (successful or not).
