ACC Swimming Carnival – Commitment Beyond the Laps

The ACC Swimming Squad has been working hard this term in preparation for the ACC ‘A’ Division Swimming Carnival, held at HBF Stadium on Wednesday 20 March. This hard work paid off with All Saints’ College comfortably edging out our closest competitor to gain fifth place. This result ensures that All Saints’ College remains in A Division for 2025, which is a creditable performance, considering we were up against much larger swimming-specialist schools.

The increase in numbers at training and cocurricular swimming this year has been significant. This has created a really positive environment and community feel.

With a team of 125 students and two major preparation events before the carnival, the Swimming Coordinators rely heavy on the students involved being committed, organised and responsible. As always, the students were incredible in the way they represented themselves and the College, as they balanced kickboards and textbooks.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Tom Stachewicz (Director of Swimming), the HPE staff and our 2024 Swimming Captain Elle Griffiths (Year 12) for their tireless efforts in promoting and improving swimming at ASC.

It is an honour to represent your College at the ‘A’ Division Carnival, and all team members should be very proud of their achievements throughout the entire swimming season.

Olivia Smith’s Success at the School Sport Australia National Triathlon

Congratulations to talented Year 9 student Olivia Smith for her exceptional performance at the recent School Sport Australia National Triathlon event. The competition, held over two days, saw Olivia participate in both individual and relay events.

The individual event comprised of a 300-meter swim, 10-kilometer bike ride, and 2-kilometer run. Olivia secured an impressive eighth place overall with a time of 32 minutes and 18 seconds.

With a goal of placing in the top 20, Olivia’s eighth place achievement was beyond her highest expectations. Despite coming out from the swim in about 13th place, Olivia persevered, gaining significant ground on the bike and the run, where she had the second fastest split time.

Olivia also excelled in the relay event, where her team secured a commendable 7th place. In the relay, two female participants and two male participants each completed a 200m swim, 5km bike ride and 1.5km run consecutively.

The Western Australian team secured an impressive third place overall for the individual events, which is an outstanding achievement. Well done, Olivia!

Lara Bussell Selected to Represent WA Metro in the Basketball Australia U/18 National Junior Championships

We’re thrilled to share that Lara Bussell (Year 11) has been selected to represent WA Metro at the Basketball Australia U/18 National Junior Championships. This achievement is especially meritorious as Lara is one of only four younger 2008 birth year players, with the remainder of the team of 12 being 2007 birth year.

Despite being one of the younger members, Lara has proven her mettle on the court, earning her rightful place in the team. A final practice match, which included jersey presentations to all team members, took place on 23 March at Bendat Basketball Centre.

The championships will be held in Brisbane in Week 2 of the School Holidays, from 7–14 April.

We wish Lara the best of luck in this competition and look forward to celebrating with her in Term 2.

Open Water Swimming Success for Teagan Balsdon

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of Teagan Balsdon (Year 9) in her debut year focusing on Open Water Swimming.

Teagan’s wonder season began with the inaugural Secondary Schools Open Water Championships at Coogee beach, offering distances of 250m, 500m and 1 km for swimmers. Teagan dived in and powered home, winning the 1 km race in the Year 7 and 8 Female category.

The following day, Teagan competed in the Swimming WA OWS Series Coogee event, claiming first place once again in the Under 14 Female category over a challenging 5 km course. Over the season, she continued to impress in the 5km event, securing first place in her category at subsequent 5 km races held at Mullaloo and Sorrento.

To finish out the OWS season, Teagan secured yet another first-place finish in the Coogee Jetty to Jetty 1.5 km race in the Under 15 Females category. Despite joining the series later than most, her outstanding performances resulted in her securing second place overall in the 2023/24 OWS Series Under 14 Girls category.

Looking ahead, Teagan is already setting her sights on even greater challenges, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to compete in longer distances when she turns 14 next season.

A huge congratulations for such an outstanding season. We look forward to her continued success in the world of Open Water Swimming.

Veer Sareen Receives Prestigious ‘Grey Wolf’ Peak Award

We are proud to share that Year 7 Student Veer Sareen was recently awarded the prestigious Scouts ‘Peak Award’ in the Club Scouts section.

The Peak award, an award rarely given due to its rigorous criteria, is reserved for clubs who follow a strict set of badge-work. It recognises those who have displayed exceptional leadership and organisational skills, emphasising the pivotal role these qualities play in the journey of personal growth and development within the Scouting community.

In addition to receiving the Peak Award, Veer had the honour of being selected as the youngest of three Scout Youth members to share his journey as a scout with Minister Hannah Beasley, the WA Minister for Youth.

A huge congratulations to Veer for this incredible achievement.
